Cyril R. Irvine R.G.N., B.Sc.(Ost), N.D., G.Os.C. Registered, Senior Osteopath As well as being an Osteopath and Naturopath, Cyril incorporates Dry Needling techniques where necessary to create an holistic approach in his treatment of patients. NATUROPATHY Naturopathy is a system of preventative and therapeutic medicine based on holistic principles. It comprises dietetics, hydrotherapy, soft tissue physical therapy, exercise counselling, relaxation and rest in order to promote and maintain the body's inherant healing mechanisms. DRY NEEDLING Dry needling or medical acupuncture is based on the modern understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology. Cyril received his training under Dr. Anthony Campbell, Emeritus Consultant Physician from the Royal London Hospital who has published extensively in the field. This version of acupuncture is different from the traditional form that uses meridians (or chanels). Instead, acupuncture needles are inserted in tender points (trigger points) in the muscle and soft tissues from which pain may radiate to distant areas in the body. It may be used in conjunction with other osteopathic techniques to help reduce pain and improve tissue function. |
Cyril in a nutshell: Cyril was a qualified Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Nurse working in a busy London teaching hospital when he first became familiar with Osteopathy as a patient. The occupational demands of the profession mean that three out of four Nurses experience a work related injury during their career. Successful treatment fostered an interest which eventually culminated in enrolment at the British College of Osteopathiy. Following graduation Cyril consolidated and built upon his practice by undertaking a number of courses including Medical Acupuncture, Low Level Laser Therapy and Lower Limb Biomechanics. Travel has been a major influence on Cyril's life and he has been fortunate to be able to indulge his interest, taking several year long trips to Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia and India. |
